INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

 

on

 

"AGRICULTURE TRADE AND FOREIGN INVESTMENTS FOR SUSTAINABLE REGIONAL INTEGRATION IN CAUCASUS AND CENTRAL ASIA" (SARICCA)

 (6-7 September 2018, Baku city, Republic of Azerbaijan)

 

 

On September 6-7, 2018, the International Conference on"Agriculture Trade and Foreign Investments for Sustainable Regional Integration in Caucasus and Central Asia" (SARICCA)was held in Baku.

 

The conference was organized jointly by the Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Development in Transition Economies (IAMO) in Germany and the Institute for Scientific Research on Economic Reforms (ISRER) under the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, with financial support from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

 

The event wasattended by 50 foreign reporters from the United States of America, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Netherlands, Italy, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, and Slovenia, along with local participants and representatives.

 

At the opening and closing sessions of the Conference, Prof., Dr. Vilayat VALIYEVDirector of the Institute for Scientific Research on Economic Reforms (ISRER); senior researchers of IAMO, Dr. Lena KUHN and Dr. Ihtiyor BOBOJONOV made their reports.

 

In addition, the main speaker of the conference, Dr. Ekaterina Krivonos GONZALES, Economist for the Export and Markets Sector of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), delivered a report on trade policy in agriculture of the former Soviet Union countries, and Dr. Kateryna Goychuk SCHROEDER, the representative of the World Bank reported about Export opportunities from Central Asia countries to China.

 

In general, the conference discussed lectures at various sessions:

resources and production factors

investment in agriculture

Agrarian policy indicators in the Caucasus and Central Asia

increasing exports in agriculture

socio-economic impacts

climate insurance in Central Asia: practical issues

profitability: information and trends

food safety and healthcare

value chains

 

Within the framework of the conference, the sides discussed opportunities for cooperation with the Azerbaijani agrarian sector and experts, and agreed to conduct joint works.

 

This event, which is an integral part of the project, traditionally organized since 2014.First was organized inHalle, Germany; later in Samarkand in 2016; and in 2018 in Baku city of Azerbaijan.

 

The next conference is scheduled to be held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, in 2020.
